Weβre less than 90 days out from the general election. If you donβt already know a certain administration is not playing fair. so: everything you need to register to vote is right here. if you live in Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, or Wisconsin, you are in a βswingβ state β and if you want things to swing differently than theyβve swung over the last few years, you should check the deadlines for your state, register, and then vote.More Money β Relief
The relief packages that have been created over the past six months have basically helped the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor. However, I was still hyped to get a $1,200 check in my bank account. Sorry not Sorry. Unfortunately, we wonβt even get that. After negotiations broke down for a second stimulus package, Trump took matters into his own hands.Trumpβs team hastily got an executive order together to continue unemployment benefits but at a lower rate($400/week), payroll tax suspension, andΒ student loan relief suspension.
WOW, this all sounds good for a lot of people hurting. Welp that's about all it does is βsound goodβ. This relief package is meant to directly help individuals affected by the pandemic and the economic collapse we are experiencing right now. It does none of these things. It only delays payments and allows many to accrue more debt. I am inclined to say this might be a new form of indentured servitude. The craziest part is that he DOESNβT even have the authority to make these provisions. Congress controls the budget and can refuse to execute his order. They will probably go along with it, but they are making sure they throw all the shade before they send out these unemployment checks.
School is Wack!
Recently, a 15 year old black girl was arrested and sent to juvenile detention for not doing her homework. This is stupid, horrible, and a case study of systematic racism working today. This week a different teen was under fire. High schooler Hannah Watters posted a picture showcasing how poorly her high school has been handling Covid protocols.Β
The image went viral and the school's first response was to suspend her for it. I mean, have yβall not been paying attention! You canβt silence people anymore lol. The suspension backfired and the school made National News for poor Covid practices as we face the highest hospitalization and death tolls in the world. It makes you ask, why are schools even open?Β
Our Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, has raged a war to destroy and limit public education resources and budget. She has publicly stated her dislike of the public school system and that other alternatives are better. Recently, she has taken a 180 degree turn and is pro public school and claims that reopening schools is healthy for students... Yet, schools, teachers, and administration staff are struggling to meet PPP requirements. I am not talking about masks or shields, they don't even have paper towels and soap. This is why teachers across the nation are protesting and pushing back on non-virtual school options. We can all agree that Zoom calls stink, but 9 students from the picture above probably wouldn't have Covid right now π€·πΎββοΈ
